Fudoushin
Aikido
At Fudoushin Aikido Club of Calgary, we practice Aikido as a living martial art—grounded in tradition, shaped by real-world movement, and guided by calm, resilient presence. Our dojo is a welcoming place to train mind and body, develop effective technique, and cultivate steadiness under pressure, both on and off the mat.
Classes
All classes are beginner-friendly. You can start anytime - just come to Southland Leisure Centre about 10 min prior to class starting, tell the front desk you're here for Aikido, and come through the security doors. We're on the right-hand side and highly visible - just look for the sign and big window. Wear comfortable clothing!

Philosophy
Our philosophy is rooted in fudōshin—the calm, immovable mind that remains responsive under pressure. We train Aikido as a living practice, emphasizing adaptability, connection, and ethical use of technique, while proudly serving the southwest Calgary community with a welcoming, disciplined place to train and grow. Fudoushin is a non-profit organization and none of the instructors are paid to teach - we have all been given many gifts by many instructors along our journey, and this is our way of giving back. As with most Aikido dojos, there are no competitions - only opportunities to train and refine your techniques on and off the mat.
We strive to adhere to the following principles:
-
Integrity: Doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.
-
Courage: Staying present and steady when things get uncomfortable.
-
Compassion: Using skill and strength with care for others.
-
Respect: Training with awareness, humility, and regard for everyone on the mat.
-
Sincerity: Showing up honestly in effort, attitude, and intention.
-
Honour: Holding yourself to a standard that reflects your values.
-
Commitment: Supporting your dojo, your training partners, and the southwest Calgary community.
